It’s still a week and a half before Labour Day, but the kids are back in school.

Some of the U.S. college kids, at least. The 2016 NCAA football season kick off Friday as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors face the California Golden Bears in Sydney, Australia.

Cal was a 20-point favourite at www.Bodog.eu as of Wednesday.

The NCAA football season will get into full swing the following week, with 16 games involving Division 1-A squads on Thursday, September 1.

Hawaii/Cal Betting Preview

Hawaii went 3-10 last year, including an 0-8 record in conference play. However, they return 15 starters from last season, including 9 on offence. Defence remains the Rainbow Warriors’ biggest issue, as they were 98th in yards allowed last year. In their final 9 games of the year, they allowed nearly 40 points per contest.

Cal got off to a promising 5-0 start before losing 5 of its last 8 games to finish 8-5. Nine starters return to the Golden Bears this year, but not star QB Jared Goff, who is now with the LA Rams. Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb is the Bears’ new starting pivot.

No Over/Under had been posted at Bodog as of Wednesday, but www.Pinnacle.com and other sportsbooks posted the total at 63.

We should be able to expect a high-scoring affair in the first NCAA football game in Australia since 1987. The Golden Bears defence ranked below Hawaii’s last season, sitting 105th in yards allowed per game.
