Cubs +325 World Series Faves After Chapman Trade

Each week, we talk to Sports Interaction to get their thoughts on what’s going on in the sports betting world, with an emphasis on sports betting in Canada.

Sports Interaction is a Canadian sportsbook that caters specifically to Canucks. They offer convenient deposit methods as well as a wide selection of betting props on many events.

Here’s our Q&A with them for this week.

2016 World Series Odds

Checking in on the world of Major League Baseball, the trade deadline is just around the corner on Monday Aug. 1. With some teams already making significant moves, will we see more changes to the World Series odds?

The Cubs were set as +350 World Series favourites a month ago and it’s going to take a lot to knock them from the top of the odds board.

They just picked up one of the best closers in the business in Aroldis Chapman and ranked first overall in team ERA at 3.28 to begin with. When you add a star reliever like that to an offence that produces 5.08 runs per game (fourth in MLB), that’s when you have the makings of a dominant squad.

Chicago has since dropped to a +325 World Series favourite, but it’s hard to know what other changes we’ll see on the odds board before the trade deadline on Monday.

UFC Betting

We’ve seen a lot of upsets in the UFC lately and another one last weekend when Valentina Shevchenko got the better of Holly Holm. Are underdogs becoming more popular bets in mixed martial arts?

It depends on the weight class, but in general, bettors love underdogs in MMA.

Many bettors will make combine a number of different fighters on the same parlay ticket in search of big paydays.

Lately that hasn’t been a bad idea. It was Holly Holm who shocked the world by upsetting Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 and that was the second biggest upset in UFC history behind Matt Sera’s win over Georges St-Pierre.

In a sport like MMA, anything can happen, so underdog bets will always be popular.

UFC 201 Betting

Having said that, are underdog bettors backing Tyrone Woodley against Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 this weekend?

Woodley is currently a +165 underdog against the champ and -215 favourite Lawler.

Any time you have an underdog who is an excellent wrestler with knockout power, you’ll have bettors who like that combination.

PGA Championship Betting

Over the past year, Jason Day has been the betting favourite in nearly every golf tournament he participates in. This week, Dustin Johnson is the +800 favourite at the PGA Championship, just ahead of Day and Rory McIlroy at +900. These are three familiar names at the top of the odds board, so who has the edge this week?

You wouldn’t be crazy to put a wager in on each of them to win.

This trio is the toast of the golfing world these days and bettors continue to throw their support behind these popular players.

Johnson finished second last week and might be the most consistent player on the tour right now, so he gets a slight edge.

This week we’re also seeing some action on Phil Mickelson at +1600 and Jordan Spieth at +1500.
