Blue Jays World Series Odds (After ALDS)

For a day, at least, the Blue Jays were the 2016 World Series favourites.

Toronto was the top-ranked team on the 2016 World Series odds as of Tuesday morning, paying +200 (2:1) to win this year’s MLB championship. The Cleveland Indians, Toronto’s opponents in the upcoming ALCS, were ranked at +300.

Toronto’s odds dropped slightly to +190 Tuesday night after the Chicago Cubs eliminated the San Francisco Giants to move on to the NLCS. The Cubs are the World Series favourites at +150, and have been the World Series favourites all year long.

In the ALCS, which starts Friday, the Blue Jays are -140 favourites to beat Cleveland. That means you’d have to risk $140 for every $100 you want to win on a Blue Jays series victory.

Other World Series contenders include the Nationals (+850) and Dodgers (+1350). Washington and the Dodgers are tied 2-2 in their NLCS series, which concludes Thursday in Washington.

The Blue Jays World Series odds were as high as 12:1 before the season began, and swelled to 18:1 when the team got off to a slow start.

Below is what we wrote about the Blue Jays’ World Series odds after the wild card game and before the season began.

Blue Jays World Series Odds (After Wild Card Game)

Following their dramatic 5-2 extra-inning victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card game, the Blue Jays have been given 6:1 odds to win the 2016 World Series.

The Jays were +600 about 12 hours after their win over the O’s that advanced them to the American League Division Series round against the Texas Rangers. A series price for the Blue Jays/Rangers matchup was not released at that time because the Blue Jays had yet to name their Game 1 starter against Texas.

The Chicago Cubs remain the 2016 World Series betting favourites, paying +240 (2.4 to 1). They’re followed by the Rangers (+480), Red Sox and Jays (+600 each), Dodgers (+650), Nationals (+750) and Indians (+1000).

Odds for all teams will change a bit Wednesday night after the Giants and Mets meet in the National League Wild Card game, since there will only be 8 possible World Series champions at that point, not 9. San Francisco and New York were both +2000 to win the World Series, going into the NL Wild Card contest.

At the start of the season, the Blue Jays paid as high as 12:1 to win the World Series.

Below is what we wrote in April 2016.

Blue Jays World Series Odds (As of April 1, 2016)

After they made their first playoff appearance in 22 years last season, the Toronto Blue Jays’ odds to win World Series are no longer a longshot.

Here’s a look at the Blue Jays 2016 World Series Odds at 6 different sportsbooks we regularly use:

Pinnacle Sports: +1003 (+485 to win the American League)
Sports Interaction: +700 (+400 to win A.L.)
Bodog: +1000 (+550 to win A.L.)
BetOnline: +1200 (+550 to win A.L.)
William Hill: +1200 (+600 to win A.L.)

World Series odds often differ greatly by sportsbook, and there’s no exception here.

You’ll get the best Blue Jays odds to win World Series at BetOnline and William Hill, and the worst at Sports Interaction.

(The large fluctuation in odds is why we suggest you have accounts at multiple sportsbooks, allowing you to get the best betting lines every time.)

Wondering who the 2016 World Series favourite is? How about the Chicago Cubs, paying just +500 at Bodog (you can get +686 at Pinnacle). Yeah, the Cubs, who haven’t won the World Series since 1908 but made several big roster moves over the offseason.

Blue Jays Season Win Total For 2016

Sportsbooks have also posted the Blue Jays’ season win total for 2016. Season win totals is when you bet whether a team will get more than (over) or less than (under) the amount of wins listed by the sportsbook.

Pinnacle has listed the Blue Jays’ season win total at 86.5, with heavier juice on the Over. That suggests there’s a greater chance for the Blue Jays to go over 86.5 than under 86.5 wins.

By comparison, BetOnline lists the Blue Jays’ season win total at 87, with -130 juice.
