Blue Jays vs Braves MLB Betting Odds And Pick (May 17)

After getting swept in a two-game series at home by the visiting Atlanta Braves, the Blue Jays hope to return the favour beginning tonight when the teams open a two-game set in Atlanta.

Toronto had been on its best roll of the season until running into the Braves, but gave up 19 runs in two games versus Atlanta at Rogers Centre.

Interleague play has never been that kind to the Jays, who need a reversal of fortunes tonight. Here’s a look at tonight’s betting matchup.

Blue Jays vs Braves betting odds May 17

The Blue Jays opened as +106 underdogs Wednesday at Pinnacle and that’s around the range they paid as of Thursday afternoon, though they did hit as high as +115 on the moneyline overnight before coming back down again. The Over/Under has gone up from an opener of 8.5, moving to the key number of 9 with juice on the Under. That may be due to the fact that Braves home games have averaged more than 10 runs per game this season.

Braves Vs. Blue Jays Betting Pick

Joe Biagini gets the ball tonight for Toronto, and that’s a good thing if you’re a Jays fan. The converted reliever has been great in his new starting role, allowing just one run (unearned) in 9 innings of work. His overall numbers are solid as well, with a strikeout-to-walk rate of nearly 8:1 and a ground ball percentage of 58.7%.

Atlanta’s starter is Mike Foltynewicz, who has been better than his 1-4 record would suggest. Foltynewicz has given up 2 earned runs or less in 5 of his 6 starts, but one bad start (7 earned runs against in 4 innings versus St. Louis) has ballooned his ERA a bit over 4. He’s walked only two hitters in his last 16 innings of work as well. If there’s one issue for Foltynewicz, it’s the home run ball, which he’s allowing at a rate of 1.5 per 9 innings.

Call us homers if you want, but the Blue Jays have the better pitcher on the mound and are the better team in this matchup. Home field advantage means little to the Braves, who are 5-8 in their own park this year. Getting plus-money here is something we don’t want to pass up.

Pick: Toronto Blue Jays +104 (Bet this game at Pinnacle)
