The Chicago Cubs are the hottest bet on the 2015 World Series betting odds, according to an ESPN.com article posted this week.
After signing ace pitcher Jon Lester and manager Joe Maddon during the offseason, the Cubs — who haven’t won the MLB championship since 1908 — have gone from 30:1 longshots at MGM Sportsbook in Las Vegas to being tied with the Red Sox as second-most likely to win the 2015 World Series (6:1).
The Nationals remain the 2015 World Series betting odds favourite at 5:1 while the Blue Jays are a distant 22:1.
“Heading into the opening week of baseball season, more money has been bet on the Cubs to win the World Series than any other team at two of Nevada’s largest sportsbooks,” wrote ESPN.com’s David Purdum.
Other big movers on the 2015 World Series betting odds have been the White Sox (from 50:1 to 10:1), Mariners (from 22:1 to 8:1), Mets (from 30:1 to 15:1), Rangers and Twins (from 75:1 to 40:1), and Red Sox (from 20:1 to 6:1).
Going the wrong way on the 2015 World Series betting odds at MGM Sportsbook in Las Vegas have been the Braves (from 22:1 to 75:1), Angels (from 6:1 to 12:1), Giants (from 8:1 to 18:1), Brewers (from 25:1 to 50:1) Orioles (from 10:1 to 22:1) and Phillies (from 75:1 to 150:1).
Sportsbooks offer different 2015 World Series betting odds
One of the big advantages of using online sportsbooks is the ability to line shop (search for better odds).
William Hill, for example, is offering drastically different World Series betting odds than what is listed at the MGM Sportsbook in Las Vegas. The Cubs pay +2800 at William Hill, nearly 5 times what they pay at the Las Vegas sportsbook.
