NHL Betting Pick For Wednesday, May 4

The Penguins are 2-8-1 this year without Letang in their lineup.

Tonight we’re on the Washington Capitals at -118 odds. We made that bet at Pinnacle Sports.

The Caps are down 2-1 in this series, and they could be down 3-0 if they hadn’t pulled out Game 1 in OT. However, they could also be up 2-1 in the series – they outshot the Penguins 49-23 in their Game 3 loss – and we expect another inspired effort tonight.

Pittsburgh is obviously without Letang. He’s arguably the most important player in that lineup. The Penguins have continued to win when they’ve been missing Crosby, Malkin and/or Fleury in recent years, but they were 2-8-1 in games this season without Letang. He has averaged more than 30 minutes of ice time in the series so far, and the Pens defence corps will feel his absence more than the forwards miss a player like Crosby or Malkin.

Given the urgency of the situation for Washington, how the Capitals dominated last game and how the Letang suspension could affect Pittsburgh, we like Washington here. The line’s gone up a bit since the opener, but we think there’s still value in anything around the -120 range.
