NHL Betting Picks For Thursday, February 15

Two seems to be our lucky number lately, as our free NHL betting picks on Tuesday went 2-0 for the fourth consecutive time.

Following wins on the Capitals Team Total over 2.5 and the Coyotes/Sharks First Period Over 1.5, both of which paid close to even money, we’re now 26-11 on the campaign with these free NHL betting picks.

Let’s go with 2 more tonight and see if we can extend this winning streak to double digits.

NHL Betting Picks For Tonight

Los Angeles Kings at Pittsburgh Penguins

If you believe in trends, you’re probably looking at the Under in this game since only one of the last 11 meetings between these teams has gone Over the total (and none of the last 8 in Pittsburgh). However, we’re a lot more focused on the way these teams are playing of late, and the way they’re playing right now is high-scoring hockey.

LA has given up 11 goals in its last 2 games and at least 4 goals in 4 of its last 7 on the road. With Pittsburgh’s offence rolling right along at home these days (4+ goals in 8 of 9 on home ice), the Kings will probably need to generate some goals of their own to stay competitive tonight. Fortunately, that shouldn’t be too hard against a Pens defence that has given up at least 3 goals in 5 of its last 6, and LA’s been putting the puck in net with good regularity as well.

The Over 5.5 makes sense here, but we’re going with the Kings Team Total Over 2.5 in case LA does tighten things up on the back end after getting embarrassed 7-3 last time out in Carolina. The Kings have a good shot at the upset here as well, so taking the team total Over allows us to win even if the Kings prevail 3-2, 3-1 or 3-0 in a low-scoring contest.

NHL Betting Prediction: Kings Team Total Over 2.5 +101

Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks

Back to the well here with the Sharks First Period Overs at home because, well, they keep on cashing in. 10 of the last 11 games in San Jose have seen at least 2 goals scored, including Tuesday as we cashed our ticket on Arizona/San Jose first period Over before 10 minutes had ticked off the clock.

Vancouver’s defence is horrible and so is backup netminder Nilsson, who is expected to be in the cage tonight. So there’s a good chance San Jose covers this number all by itself. But the Canucks are also capable of contributing to the scoring, having potted 4 goals in each of their last 2 games against the Sharks.

We’re going to look to keep playing San Jose first period Overs when they’re facing opponents who also tend to score or allow a lot of first-period goals, and that’s the case again here as Vancouver is allowing 1.11 goals per game in the opening stanza alone. At -108 odds, there’s plenty of value here again.

NHL Betting Prediction: Canucks/Sharks First Period Over 1.5 -108
