CFL Betting Picks For Week 8

We went 1-1 on our Week 7 CFL betting picks and enter the middle third of the season with a record of 8-4 (66%) against the spread for +3.6 units.

Hamilton laid a huge egg for us on our first pick, getting humiliated 37-11 in Winnipeg. The Tiger-Cats trailed 34-0 at halftime and turned the ball over four times. We expected the Ticats to play well in a revenge game and also felt the Blue Bombers might suffer a letdown after winning the previous week in Edmonton.

Fortunately, we were able to avoid our first losing week of the season as the Lions easily took care of the Alouettes in Montreal. B.C. racked up 419 yards of offence to overcome a pair of interceptions and rout the Als 38-18, covering the 2.5 point spread by more than two touchdowns.

Back from vacation yesterday and Week 8 starts tonight, so let’s get to the Week 8 CFL Betting Picks right away.

Week 8 CFL Betting Picks

Alouettes at Eskimos (Thursday, 9 p.m. eastern)

The Eskimos are coming off a 23-20 loss in Ottawa Saturday so there hasn’t been a lot of time to prepare for this game.

However, the heat is on in Edmonton. The defending Grey Cup champions are 2-4 and losers of 3 straight. That’s just not acceptable in Edmonton, and the team has already shaken up its roster a bit this week. We’ve also heard the word ‘must win’ from the mouths of a few Eskimos players.

Montreal is also 2-4 and in desperate need of a win, but the Alouettes are simply not in the same class as the Eskimos. There’s also apparently the possibility of a mutiny in the near future, with coach Jim Popp rubbing a lot of players the wrong way with some condescending comments during practice Sunday. If the Als get down early, we’re not sure that this team has it within them to come back right now.

We fully expect Edmonton to win this game, but we’re not eager to lay the touchdown. So we’re going to use Edmonton in our first teaser of the season instead (if you don’t know what a teaser is, we explain it in this article.)

Blue Bombers at Argonauts (Friday, 7:30 p.m. eastern)

It’s not often you can say the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are among the hottest teams in the CFL, but that’s what we have right now. Winnipeg has won two straight since changing to Matt Nichols at QB, including a whitewash of the Ticats last week.

It isn’t all Nichols, however. The Bombers defence has also stepped up, forcing four turnovers last week and currently leading the league in 21 turnovers forced. They can’t continue to rely on interceptions and fumbles, but Winnipeg might enjoy one more week of feasting on turnovers against Argos backup QB Logan Kilgore.

The Argos haven’t played in nearly 2 weeks, their last outing being an impressive win in Ottawa. They’re still without starting QB Ricky Ray, however. Kilgore has done a credible job, but we’re not sure he can lead the Argos to a comfortable victory over a confident Winnipeg squad.

Winnipeg will be the other leg of our teaser this week. Since the Bombers are 4-point underdogs, using a 6.5 point teaser will allow us to get the Blue Bombers +10.5 (hurdling 10, which is one of the key numbers in football betting.)

Week 8 CFL Betting Picks Recap

So to recap, we’re taking the Eskimos and Blue Bombers in a 2 game, 6.5 point teaser.

That means we have Edmonton -0.5 and Winnipeg +10.5, and we’ll need to win them both to win this bet.

Here’s what the bet looks like.
