2012 Grey Cup Betting Preview: Stampeders vs Argonauts

Calgary Stampeders (-1.5, O/U 55.5) vs. Toronto Argonauts

Home field advantage won’t be the only thing the Toronto Argonauts will have going for them when they face the Calgary Stampeders in the 100th edition of the Grey Cup CFL championship game Sunday at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

The Argos have not lost to the Stampeders in more than two years, winning both meetings this season and five straight in the series since July 2010. A fact even more relevant to CFL bettors is that Toronto has covered the spread in all five of those games as well.

And a larger-than-normal home crowd is guaranteed to be on hand in support of the Argos, who upset the Montreal Alouettes 27-20 in last week’s Eastern final.

On the other hand, Calgary is coming off a 34-29 road win over the BC Lions in the West final. And the Stampeders are favoured for a reason. They won 14 of 20 games this season while the Argos were just 11-9, and Calgary was 6-4 on the road while Toronto was just 5-5 at home.

One particular betting trend that sticks out in this game is the Stampeders’ tendency to play high-scoring games. Calgary’s last six games have gone over the total, and only seven of the Stampeders’ last 28 road contests have gone under. The over has also cashed in five of the last six Calgary visits to Toronto, and the over is 4-1 in the Argos’ last five overall.
