Senators, Oilers Both Underdogs For Round 2

When are higher-seeded teams with home ice advantage considered the underdogs?

When they’re the Ottawa Senators.

For the second straight series, the Sens are betting underdogs despite holding home-ice advantage, this time against the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Ottawa is listed at +129 odds to advance at www.Pinnacle.com.

The Senators paid close to +150 to beat the Bruins in Round 1, but took care of Boston in six games.

Canada’s other team to advance to the second round, the Edmonton Oilers, is also given less than a 50% chance by oddsmakers. Pinnacle makes Edmonton a +120 underdog against the Anaheim Ducks, who are 18-0-3 in their last 21 games overall and will host the first two games of the series, beginning with Game 1 on Wednesday.

The Oilers are coming off an impressive 4-2 series win over San Jose in the opening round.

In the other two series, the President’s Cup Trophy-winning Washington Capitals are -121 favourites to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Nashville Predators are -124 to beat St. Louis despite being the lower seed.
