Betting Picks For Thursday September 19

The sports betting menu tonight includes Thursday Night Football NFL action, a NCAA football game and a six-game docket in MLB baseball.

Let’s start with the NFL game, where new Kansas City coach Andy Reid makes his first visit back to Philadelphia. It will no doubt be an emotional night for Reid, and we’re sure his players will be motivated to make it extra special with a victory. Of course, the Chiefs should already be motivated by a 2-0 start that has fans already dreaming about a playoff appearance. KC has looked very solid on defence in its first two outings, and the Chiefs will need another strong defensive showing against Chip Kelly’s fast-paced Eagles attack. As good as Philly’s offence appears to be, however, their defence is horrible. With the posted total tonight at 50.5, we’re not sure oddsmakers are quite accounting properly for how quickly the Eagles are running plays on offence. We lean towards the Over 50.5.

Clemson visits North Carolina State in the college football contest. Clemson is ranked third in the FBS and is rightfully a two-touchdown favourite in this one, with the total set at 66. Ordinarily, a decent program like NC State catching 14 points at home in front of a national audience would make for a strong play, but it’s a little intimidating betting against the Tigers. We’ll pass on this one.

In MLB betting action, the Rangers visit Tampa Bay in the finale of a crucial four-game set. Texas has lost seven of eight to fall out of the lead for the first AL wild card spot, including a gutwrenching 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Rays last night. The Rangers would appear to have the ideal guy on the mound tonight to get back on track (Darvish), but he is winless in his last six outings because Texas hasn’t been scoring any runs for him. That’ll probably be the case again tonight as Matt Moore (15-3) starts for the Rays. All signs point to a low-scoring game, but there isn’t much value in betting under a total of 6.5. If both teams get to three runs, we lose. We’d rather take the Rays +101, feeling that Moore should not be a home underdog in this matchup.

Good luck tonight!
