Two teams going in entirely opposite directions here and we expect that to continue tonight. New York is 5-0-1 under Doug Weight and 6-0-1 in its last 7 overall, scoring 3 goals or more with great regularity and holding opponents to 2 goals or less in 9 of its last 10. The Red Wings have lost 5 straight and are wretched at home in their final year at the Joe. The Islanders aren’t much to write home about on the road this year either, but it’s especially tough struggling at home where the fans can get on you as soon as things go wrong. At a short underdog price, the Islanders look like a solid bet here.

2. Ducks Team Total Over 2.5 +103 (Pinnacle)
Anaheim is starting a 6-game road trip tonight and that always presents itself as a high-focus spot. Teams want to get long trips off to a good start, knowing things will only get tougher as they continue to live out of suitcases and fly from city to city. The Ducks’ offence is hardly explosive, but they’ve potted 3 goals or more in 3 straight games and now face a Panthers team that has struggled to keep the puck out of its own net this year. Florida is also starting James Reimer in net, which helps this play even more. The Panthers might play with a bit more life tonight now that Huberdeau and Barkov have returned, but we like the Ducks’ chances of scoring at least 3 in this matchup.
