Free NHL Betting Picks For Thursday, January 19

A 1-1 day yesterday for our NHL betting picks for tonight as the Penguins Team Total Over 2.5 won but the Kings -119 moneyline play lost. Our season record since starting this new site feature last week is now 11-4.

Tonight, we have 8 games in the NHL. It’ll be interesting to see how the Islanders respond in their first game since firing coach Jack Capuano, whether Henrik Lundqvist can bounce back after giving up 7 goals Tuesday to the Stars, and if Washington can rebound from a demoralizing loss Monday in Pittsburgh.

Let’s get to our NHL predictions for tonight.

NHL Betting Picks For Tonight

1. Islanders -110 (Pinnacle)

As we said earlier, it’s the first game for New York since their coach was fired, and that’s typically a good spot to back a team. Plus the Islanders have actually been playing decently of late, including a 4-0 win in Boston on Monday. Dallas comes in off a 7-6 win over the Rangers but that was the 6th time in their last 8 games they allowed 4 goals or more. A motivated home side against a Stars team that is 4-14 the last 18 times it played its 3rd time in 4 nights at close to even odds? We’ll take our chances.

2. Rangers Team Total Over 2.5 -138 (Pinnacle)

New York’s defensive issues are getting all of the attention right now, but we can’t ignore the fact that the Rangers are scoring goals of their own as well. New York’s lit the lamp at least 4 times in 4 of its last 5 games and 8 of 10. Toronto’s given up at least 2 goals in 9 consecutive games, and the Over/Under in this game is 6.5. In a game that is priced as close to a coin toss, we think the Rangers have a very good shot of getting to 3 goals here.

3. Capitals First Period Moneyline -125 (Sports Interaction)

The Capitals have been fast starters all year, and we cashed a bet on them to win the first period Monday in Pittsburgh. St. Louis has been outscored in the first period this year at home, and has been outscored 10-5 in first periods over their last 10 games. Washington’s scoring plenty of goals and the Blues are struggling to prevent them. If the Capitals can even get 1 in the first period here tonight, we should have a great shot at no worse than a push.
