It’s really not that hard to figure out why we like this bet. Pittsburgh has been a goal-scoring machine for a couple of months now, especially at home, and that trend has continued recently with 24 goals in their last 4 games. St. Louis has major defensive and goaltending issues, illustrated by the fact that they’ve given up FIVE goals or more in 5 of their last 7 games. You can take a shot at the Over 6 instead here, but considering the Penguins have given up exactly 1 goal in each of their last 3 games, we’d rather just rely on Pittsburgh’s offence coming through as it usually does.

2. Sabres First Period Moneyline +135 (Sports Interaction)

The Predators are coming off a nice 4-1 road trip and may look like they have some good momentum, but it’s always tough to play your first home game after a long road trip, especially if you have only 1 day off in between to catch up with family and loved ones. Then factor in how Nashville’s been struggling to score goals at home lately (3 regulation time goals in their last 2 home games) and a first period play makes a lot of sense, since Nashville would have to outscore Buffalo in this period in order for us to lose (we’ll push if it’s tied). Buffalo comes in with confidence (3-1 last 4, 6-3-1 last 10) and their first period numbers are quite good on the year. We give this a 50/50 chance of winning tonight, so the +135 odds make it a no brainer to us.

3. Stars Team Total Over 2.5 -111 (Pinnacle)

It’s a short price on Dallas tonight at home and an even more surprisingly low juice on the Over 5.5, so we have to believe the oddsmakers think it’s more likely that Dallas gets to 3 goals here than the Wild. Dallas scores lots of goals, especially at home, and Minnesota’s been allowing them at a very high rate for such a successful team (3+ goals against in 7 of their last 10 games). The Stars have also had a lot of success against Minnesota over the years at home (24-6 last 30 meetings) and whether this is a high-scoring game or a grind-it-out affair, we love Dallas’ chances of scoring 3 or more tonight.
