Mariners vs Blue Jays MLB Betting Odds And Pick (May 12)

The Blue Jays won their second straight game and eighth in their last 12 last night with a 7-2 victory over the Mariners, and we won along with them.

We saw trouble in Mariners starter Chase De Jong’s future because of his low strikeout rate and his high home run ratio. Sure enough, De Jong only struck out one, walked three, and gave up a three-run homer to Steve Pearce that was really the deciding blow in the ballgame.

Can Toronto continue to work its way back into the AL East race with another victory tonight? Let’s break down Game 2 of the Jays’ four-game series with Seattle.

Mariners Vs. Blue Jays Betting Odds At Pinnacle

The Blue Jays opened as -125 favourites Thursday at Pinnacle and there hadn’t been much movement on that line by Friday morning. The Over/Under was set at 8.5 with -115 juice on the Under, and money on the Over led to a 30-cent move on the juice. Don’t be surprised to see an Over/Under of 9 in this game by first pitch, so if you like the Over, you’re probably best to bet it sooner than later. The Jays pay +161 odds to win the game by more than 1 run on the -1.5 run line handicap.

Mariners Vs. Blue Jays Betting Pick

Tonight’s pitching matchup isn’t exactly a duel of Cy Young candidates. Both teams have injury issues in their starting rotations and are turning to spot starters for tonight’s ball game.

Christian Bergman makes his first-ever start for Seattle, and just the 16th of his big league career. He pitched 3.2 innings of effective relief in his Mariners debut Sunday against Texas, holding the Rangers to one run on one hit. His minor-league numbers this season are very impressive (5-0, 2.17 ERA) but Bergman is just 7-9 with a 5.71 ERA in his 56 appearances in the majors. He doesn’t strike out many hitters, but he doesn’t walk many either.

Toronto answers with Joe Biagini, who allowed one unearned run in four innings in his last start Sunday against Tampa. Biagini will be on a pitch count of around 70 and could be gone by the fifth inning even if he’s pitching effectively. There’s a lot to like about Biagini, even though he’s normally a reliever. His strikeout to walk ratio is outstanding, and he’s got an excellent ground ball rate as well.

The Mariners were swinging hot bats coming into this series but managed only a two-run homer by Nelson Cruz in the first inning yesterday. Seattle could be without Robinson Cano for the second straight night (strained quad) and we don’t see them generating that much against Biagini. With the Jays bullpen pitching better lately and the Toronto offence having scored 15 runs in its last two ball games, we’ll ask the Jays to continue their recent roll at this low price.
