NHL Betting Picks For Wednesday, December 6

A hot run for our free NHL betting picks continued last night as we went 2-0, cashing with the Lightning Team Total over 3.5 (at plus money) and the Jets/Red Wings Over 5.5.

We liked Detroit to bring a spirited effort after losing its previous game 10-1 at Montreal, and the Wings did exactly that, scoring 5 goals. Fortunately, 1 goal from the Jets was enough to send the game Over, but we did expect more offence from Winnipeg as well.

It’s a fairly quiet night in the NHL today, by comparison to last night’s 10-game slate, with just 4 games scheduled for tonight. However, Canadian fans will have rooting interests in 3 of the 4 games as the Flames visit the Maple Leafs, Edmonton hosts Philadelphia and the Senators travel to Anaheim.

Let’s see what we like for free NHL betting picks tonight.

NHL Predictions For Tonight

Philadelphia Flyers at Edmonton Oilers

The Flyers snapped their 10-game losing streak Monday in Calgary, erupting for 5 goals after being limited to just 1 goal in their previous 2 outings. We find that happens a lot with struggling teams – once they get a couple of goals and regain some confidence, the dam can burst and they start potting a few more. Philadelphia looks like it has a good chance for another nice offensive night here as it faces an Oilers team that has allowed 3+ goals in 7 of its last 8 outings, especially with backup Laurent Brossoit in net for Edmonton.

What can’t be lost in Philly’s win on Monday, however, is that their defensive problems still exist. Philadelphia allowed a whopping 45 shots to the Flames, a total that may be inflated by the fact that Calgary was playing from behind much of the night, but still something that the Flyers should be concerned about. They’ve given up at least 2 goals in 10 straight, and at least 4 goals in 5 of their last 8. Meanwhile, Edmonton comes into tonight with some confidence offensively as well, scoring 7 goals Saturday in Calgary after striking for 4 against the Leafs last Thursday.

Connor McDavid has reportedly been feeling ill, but he’s still expected to play. There’s something about facing a poor defensive team like Philadelphia that can make you feel better in a hurry. We like the potential for both teams to score at least 3 goals here tonight, making the Over 6 a natural play.
