We watch way more sports than movies, so when it came to making our 2016 Oscars betting picks, we deferred to the experts.

Following are Sunday’s Sports Interaction Oscars 2016 betting odds, and picks we made based on the opinions of Global News national entertainment reporter Chris Jancelewicz and People magazine senior writer Alynda Wheat.

Best Picture

Best Picture

The Revenant (in which Leonardo DiCaprio plays a frontiersman who is left for dead after a bear attack) is most likely to win, favoured at -245 odds (you’d have to bet $245 to win $100, or $24.50 to win $10).

However, Wheat suggests The Big Short (when four men capitalize on the 2008 collapse of the U.S. economy) should win the Best Picture Oscar, making it an attractive betting pick at more than 4 times your money.

And Jancelewicz believes Spotlight (+290) could be worth a shot if voters are trying to avoid having The Revenant winning everything.

Best Director

Best Director

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of value in this bet.

Alejandro G. Inarritu is a huge favourite for how he managed a nine-month shoot of the Revenant in freezing conditions, and Wheat says Inarritu should and will take home the Best Director Oscar.

Adam McKay might be worth a small longshot bet at +1500, especially if The Big Short earns the Best Picture award.

Best Actor

Best Actor

Sensing a trend here?

The Revenant’s Leonardo DiCaprio is the runaway favourite for the Best Actor award, and it’s saying something that Cranston and Damon are such huge underdogs.

It looks like betting on anyone other than DiCaprio is burning your money, and you might want to parlay (combine) a DiCaprio Best Actor pick with another Oscar pick instead.

Best Actress

Best Actress

We interrupt this Revenant lovefest for the Best Actress award, where Brie Larson is a solid favourite for her work in Room.

We actually saw this movie last weekend and can’t argue with Wheat and Jancelewicz’s selection of Larson as both the probable and deserving winner, even at -2500 odds.

Like DiCaprio, Larson appears to be a good add to a parlay.

Best Supporting Actor

Best Supporting

Finally, some underdog prices we can take a stab at.

Stallone is a healthy favourite and is Jancelewicz’s pick, but Wheat believes Mark Rylance (+259) will take home the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in Bridge of Spies.

Both writers also suggest The Revenant’s Tom Hardy (+1100) is very deserving of the award, making him an attractive underdog bet.

Best Supporting Actress

Alicia Vikander of The Danish Girl (she plays a woman who supports her husband’s wish to undergo one of the world’s first sex changes) is the leading candidate for Best Supporting Actress.

Both Wheat and Jancelewicz believe she’ll win it.
