Proline Soccer Betting: Premier League Preview

Luis Suarez should be raring to play at Old Trafford this weekend.

The Super Bowl may have marked the end of the NFL football season, but there’s still plenty of football to bet on these days.

European football — or soccer, as most of us Canadians call it — is heating up with a few big games on tap for this weekend.

Here’s a preview of what lies ahead in the Premier League if you plan on betting at Proline. Or, if you want to get better odds by using an offshore sportsbook, remember that Pinnacle Sports offers the best odds on all sports.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool (Feb 11)

The spotlight will be on both Manchester United and Liverpool as they meet at Old Trafford in what is expected to be a fiery derby encounter.

There will be even more attention on the game as it is the first time Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra play against one another since the two were involved in a race incident.

Suarez was subsequently banned for eight games and will be raring to go at Old Trafford. However, he will be expecting a very frosty reception from the home crowd.

Last time out United fought back brilliantly to secure a 3-3 draw with Chelsea despite trailing 3-0 after 50 minutes.

Two penalties from Wayne Rooney and an 84th-minute header from Javier Hernandez meant United completed an emphatic comeback to stay within two-points of Manchester City.

United’s injury list is expected to shorten ahead of the game with Liverpool as Phil Jones, Nani, Michael Owen and Tom Cleverly are all expected to be available.

Earlier in the season the two teams played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield, with Hernandez again scoring a late goal to earn a share of the spoils.

The two teams also met in the FA Cup at Anfield where Liverpool knocked out United with a 2-1 win.

Liverpool last beat United at Old Trafford 4-1 in 2009.

Tottenham vs. Newcastle (Feb 11)

Tottenham and Newcastle meet at White Hart Lane on Saturday as both teams continue to perform above expectations in the Premier League.

Last time out Newcastle beat Aston Villa 2-1 at home, thanks to goals from Demba Ba and debutant Papiss Cisse.

However, Newcastle’s win came at a cost as Ryan Taylor and Leon Best both picked up injuries and are out for the rest of February.

Spurs have their own injury problems, as William Gallas and Tom Huddlestone remain unavailable.

Newcastle striker Ba has been in fantastic form this campaign, scoring 16 goals in his debut season in the black and white shirt.

Newcastle are just one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea and a win against Spurs would see them considered as serious Champions League place contenders.

Earlier in the season Newcastle came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Spurs, with goals from Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi.

Newcastle have not won at White Hart Lane since 2008, when they smashed Spurs 4-1.

Aston Villa vs. Man City (Feb 12)

Aston Villa welcome league leaders Manchester City to Villa Park on Sunday as they look to inflict a fourth defeat of the season on the visitors.

Villa have won just two of their last six Premier League games and have subsequently slipped to 13th in the table.

Villa’s main problem has been in front of goal as they have scored just 29 goals in 24 games.

Manchester City meanwhile, got back to winning ways after trouncing Fulham 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

However, City face the prospect of losing top spot in the Premier League for the first time this year if United win against Liverpool.

If this happens it will be interesting to see how City react mentally to not being top of the league.

However, if they beat Villa, no matter what happens with Manchester United, City will be top at the end of the game.

City have scored more than double the amount of goals Villa have this season and they also boast the best defensive record.

Earlier in the season Villa were comfortably beaten 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Villa Park has been a bogey ground for City in recent times and they have not won since 2006.
