Single Game Betting In Canada To Be Put To Vote

We’ll know more about the future of single game sports betting in Canada in a couple of weeks.

Legal Sports Report recently reported that Bill C-221, the private member’s legislation that would amend the Canadian Criminal Code to allow for single-game wagering, will face a significant vote later this month.

According to the article, deliberations on whether to recommend the bill for further deliberation by the Committee on Justice and Human Rights or to reject the bill will take place in the House of Commons on September 21.

If the bill is approved, it would likely either advance through the House of Commons and move on to the anti-regulation members of the Senate or it would die – and the movement to allow single game sports betting in Canada would die for several years as well.

Currently, the only ways to bet on one game at a time in Canada are through the use of online sportsbooks (which are not illegal for Canadians to join or use) or by using an illegal bookie. Provincial sports lotteries in Canada require parlaying (combining) several outcomes onto one ticket, which significantly lowers your chances of winning.

A previous attempt to legalize single game sports betting in Canada, Bill C-290, died in the Canadian Senate last year.
