Dolphins at Patriots, 8:25 p.m. eastern, SportsNet 1

A few weeks ago, this looked like another dog of a game on the Thursday Night Football schedule. But with the Dolphins’ resurgence under interim coach Dan Campbell, this has the potential of a great AFC East rivalry clash.

Miami is 2-0 since replacing Joe Philbin with the musclebound Campbell, who was the Patriots’ tight end coach. But that’s not all. Under Campbell, Miami has 10 sacks in two games (after one in four under Philbin) and has outscored opponents 82-36.

Those wins came against Tennessee and Houston, and New England is obviously a huge step up in class for Miami. But with the Dolphins’ new-found confidence and swagger, we think they can keep it close. We like the Fish +8 -103 at Pinnacle Sports.

Hawks at Knicks, 8 p.m. eastern, TSN 2

Atlanta was the best team in the Eastern Conference last year, and the Knicks were the worst. However, the teams flipped the script in their NBA season openers this week, with the Hawks getting blown out at home by the Pistons and the Knicks routing the Bucks.

We’re sure the Hawks will be motivated to bounce back from that disappointing loss to Detroit, but this is a big chance for New York to prove itself in front of a national U.S. audience on TNT. With public perception still being that Atlanta is awesome and the Knicks stink, there’s NBA point spread value on New York. We’ll bite with New York +4 -110

Avalanche at Lightning, 7:30 p.m. eastern, NHL Center Ice

Tampa Bay is struggling, getting shut out in its last two games and dropping three games on a four-game road trip. Fortunately, the Avalanche is coming to town.

Colorado’s lost four straight games, managing just five goals during that stretch. The Avs have won just twice in their first eight games, and they’ve lost their last three visits to Tampa.

We look for the Lightning to get back on track tonight, but we’re not willing to lay the -200 odds. Instead, we’ll take them to win in regulation, a bet that pays -112 at Pinnacle Sports.
