Thursday Night Football Betting Preview: Saints at Falcons

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (-3.5, O/U 56)

Though the Atlanta Falcons have been one of the NFL’s best regular-season teams over the past few years, there’s one team they’ve consistently struggled against in recent action.

That’s the New Orleans Saints, who have beat the Falcons in the last five meetings between the teams. That includes handing 10-1 Atlanta its lone loss of this season, a 31-27 win Nov. 11 in New Orleans when the Saints limited the Falcons to 46 rushing yards and stopped Atlanta on downs inside the New Orleans five-yard line in the dying seconds.

WR Roddy White and the Falcons aren’t giving the Saints too much credit for that win, though.

“It’s not like they came out here and won a game,” White told reporters. “I think we kind of gave it to them.”

That might light a fire under the Saints, who have already won their last three at Atlanta — each by a field goal — and 11 of the last 13 meetings overall. Then again, New Orleans shouldn’t need much motivation these days, since the Saints (5-6) are already fighting for their playoff lives. Those postseason hopes took a big hit last week with a home loss to the 49ers.

The Falcons still hold the inside track for home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, but they aren’t exactly blowing teams out of the water. Last week’s win over Tampa Bay came by a point, the previous one by four.

The over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between the Falcons and Saints, and 12-4 in the Saints’ last 16 overall. The under, however, is 4-1 in Atlanta’s last five games at home.
