British Open Betting Preview: Tiger Woods The Favourite

Tiger Woods is favoured to earn another British Open trophy this weekend.

Tiger Woods is relishing the challenge of trying to win a fourth Open Championship, having sealed victory at the AT & T National last weekend.

The 36-year-old American has now won three times in his last seven outings, with his latest success moving him past Jack Nicklaus into second place on the list of career victories on the PGA Tour.

Fourteen-time Major champion Woods still trails Nicklaus by four in the list of grand slam victories, but will have a chance to close that gap by one at Royal Lytham & St Annes later this month.

An upbeat Woods told reporters: “I remember there was a time when people were saying I could never win again. That was, I think, what, six months ago.

“It was just a matter of time. I could see the pieces coming together.”

Woods is +800 to win his first Open since 2006, with Lee Westwood at +1400 and both Rory McIlroy and world number one Luke Donald +1600 (odds current as of Monday afternoon subject to change).

With the unique challenge of links golf ahead of him at Lytham, Woods added: “It’s going to be totally different shot-making and preparation.

“I’m going to have to start practicing some different shots and getting used to hitting the ball a little bit lower, a little bit more flighted.

“It’s a totally different game playing links golf, but I still have to have the ability to get the ball up in the air.”
