March Madness Championship Game Odds: Wisconsin -1

Monday’s matchup of Duke and Wisconsin is basically a coin flip on the March Madness championship game odds.

The betting line opened as a pick ’em before moving Wisconsin to a 1-point favourite as of Monday morning. The over/under had ticked down a point to 139.5.

Duke has been in the title game multiple times under head coach Mike Krzyzewski — winning against Kansas, Michigan, Arizona and Butler while losing to Louisville, UNLV, Arkansas and Connecticut. The victory over Butler coincidentally took place in the same building as Monday’s game (Indianapolis’s Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts) and the Blue Devils will be hoping that’s a good omen.

Meanwhile, this is Wisconsin’s first trip to the national championship under head coach Bo Ryan and the school has not been this far since winning it all in 1941. Knocked out in the Final Four by Kentucky last season, the Badgers are an experienced group that will be under little pressure.

Regular season and Big Ten tournament champions Wisconsin have lost only three times all season. One of those was at home to Duke in a non-conference game in early December. The Blue Devils won by 10 on the night at the Kohl Center in Madison, but no one expects them to shoot 65% from the floor again.

The Blue Devils have been something of an anomaly all season and received a #1 seed despite not winning either the ACC regular season crown or the conference tournament. Virginia can feel somewhat aggrieved that they ended up as a #2 seed and were stunned by Michigan State while Duke had a fairly uneventful series of opponents before beating the Spartans on Saturday.

With the March Madness championship game odds usually being very close to to the actual result, we suggest a basketball teaser would be a good way to enjoy the NCAA championship game. With a 5-point teaser, you can move either Duke to +6 or Wisconsin to +4 and move the over to 134.5. A 5-point teaser pays close to the same as a standard point spread or over/under bet, but you will need both legs of your teaser to win in order to cash your ticket.
