So far this NHL betting season, the Montreal Canadiens have been the best team to pick on the puck line while the St. Louis Blues are the top pick to go over the total.
Puck line NHL betting
Montreal is a sizzling 25-16 against the puck line (check out our Eight Ways To Do NHL Betting article if you don’t know what a puck line is). If you had wagered $100 on Montreal on the puck line every game this season, you’d be up $1,417.
Other excellent puck line picks this year in NHL betting have been the New York Rangers (23-16, $1,261) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (26-16, $1,224).
If teams are good on the puck line, it means they usually win by more than 1 goal when they’re favoured, they don’t usually lose by more than 1 goal when they’re underdogs, or both.
That’s why Anaheim, despite having the best record in the league this year, is the worst puck line pick this season in NHL betting. The Ducks are 13-30 against the puck line, costing you $2,268 if you’d bet $100 on Anaheim on the puck line every game this year.
Over Under NHL betting
St. Louis is 20-9 over-under this season in NHL betting, meaning they’re going over the total 69% of the time. The Blues, who rank third in the league in goals per game, have gone over the total in each of their last five contests.
The Coyotes (23-15, 60.5%) and Sabres (21-15, 58.3%) are also excellent bets to go over the total.
Carolina is the biggest under team this season in NHL betting, going 12-24 over-under. The Hurricanes have gone over the total only 33.3% of the time, largely because they average a pathetic 2.0 goals per game. Carolina recently had an 18-game stretch in which it went over the total just once.
Chicago (14-23, 37.8%), Nashville and Montreal (13-21, 38.2%) are also solid under teams this year in NHL betting.
