If you want to pick the best teams in NHL betting, it usually costs you quite a bit on the odds.

A way to get around that is to bet on teams that are playing on the road. The odds are usually much better doing NHL betting on road teams, though your team won’t have the advantage of last change or a supportive crowd behind it.

Here are the Top 3 road teams in NHL betting this season (stats as of Monday, December 8):

Penguins (9-2-1)

You won’t get too much of a discount betting on the Penguins away from home. Pittsburgh has have been favoured in all but 1 of its road games this year (they won that one, 4-1 at Minnesota). The Pens were even -325 faves in Buffalo (Pittsburgh won, 6-1).

Fortunately, 5 of Pittsburgh’s 9 road wins have come by 3 goals or more. The Pens seem like a great choice for the -1.5 puck line (or V+ on Proline) when they’re playing away from Consol Energy Centre.

Ducks (9-3-2)

Anaheim’s been an excellent road team over the past few years, and this season is no exception.

What’s interesting about the Ducks this year is that they’re winning on the road with offence. Anaheim has scored 4 goals or more in 7 of its 14 contests away from The Pond.

3 of the Ducks’ 9 road wins came as underdogs, including a +142 win in Chicago.

Canucks (11-5-1)

Vancouver won 6 of its first 8 road games and 9 of its first 12. That included cashes of +130 at St. Louis and +140 at Anaheim.

The Canucks have come back down to earth a bit lately in road games, going 2-2-1 in their last 5.

Vancouver is also playing high-scoring contests away from home, with only 6 of their 17 games going under so far.
