Stanley Cup Final Game 5 Odds And Prediction

While the NBA playoffs are headed for an anticlimactic finish to an anticlimactic postseason, the NHL is delivering us another great Stanley Cup Final.

This year’s Predators/Penguins clash is down to a best of 3 headed into Game 5 tonight in Pittsburgh. The Penguins will have home ice in 2 of the remaining 3 games (if a 7th game is necessary), which is significant considering how much home teams have dominated this series.

Pittsburgh outscored the Predators 9-4 in the first 2 games at PPG Paints Arena, but Nashville flipped the script in Games 3 and 4, outscoring the visiting Penguins 9-2.

So who has the upper hand? Well, the Penguins are still favoured to win this series, but not by nearly as much as when the final began. You can get -140 odds on Pittsburgh to win the Cup right now at 5Dimes (you can actually get -135 on their reduced juice lines), compared to the -160 you had to lay before Game 1. Nashville pays +120 (+125 for reduced juice players), a drop from the +140 or better the Preds were offering going into the series.

Obviously, the result of tonight’s Game 5 will have a huge impact on the Stanley Cup Final betting odds, with the winner moving within 1 victory of capturing the Cup.

So here’s a look at the Game 5 odds, followed by our betting prediction.

Stanley Cup Final Game 5 Odds

  • Moneyline: Predators +135, Penguins -155
  • Puck Line: Predators +1.5 -245, Penguins -1.5 +205
  • Total: Over 5.5 +115, Under 5.5 -135

(Odds as of 10 a.m. June 8 and subject to change)

The home ice dominance in this series is reflected in the Stanley Cup Final Game 5 odds. The Penguins were +140 underdogs in Game 4 in Nashville, but they’re now -155 moneyline favourites to win tonight. The Predators pay +135 to pull off the upset for their third straight win in the series.

The Over/Under is at 5.5 goals, with -135 juice on the Under. The series has alternated Overs and Unders since Game 1 so if that trend continues tonight, you could win +115 odds on the Over 5.5.

Each game in this series has been decided by 2 goals or more, so the Penguins -1.5 at +205 odds may also tempt you. Even if it’s a 1-goal game late, Pittsburgh could add an empty netter to cover that puck line. If you think the Predators can cover the -1.5 puck line, you’re looking at even more lucrative odds. Nashville pays +335 to win by 2 goals or more on the alternate betting lines.

The 3-way betting line offers odds in regulation time. Nashville pays +200 odds to win the game in the first 60 minutes (you’d lose your bet if it goes to OT), the Penguins are just a bit over even money at +115 odds, and the tie in regulation pays +275.

On the first period lines, the Penguins pay +170 to be leading the game after 20 minutes while the Over 1.5 goals pays even money.

Stanley Cup Final Game 5 Betting Prediction

The Predators have all the momentum right now and Pekka Rinne looks like he’s rediscovered his game. But we could say the same thing about the Penguins going into Game 3 in Nashville.

The -155 moneyline price on Pittsburgh is a bit pricey for my liking, but I do expect them to somehow get the job done tonight in Game 5.  If Matt Murray gets the start tonight (there’s been rumours of the Pens reinserting Marc-Andre Fleury), I like the young netminder to bounce back with his best effort of the series.

Prediction: Penguins 3, Nashville 1.
